Navacerrada: the closest mountain day out from Collado Villalba
Navacerrada is the gateway to the Sierra de Guadarrama from Collado Villalba: a lively mountain village with, above it, the pass and some of the most beautiful trails in Madrid.
The village
About 15 minutes from Collado Villalba, Navacerrada has a quiet centre with its square, terraces and restaurants serving mountain cooking. From the village you can see the Navacerrada reservoir, with the mountains in the background.
The Navacerrada pass
Further up the road, the pass (1,858 metres) separates Madrid from Segovia and is the starting point for many walks in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, declared in 2013. Well-known routes such as Siete Picos or the climb to Bola del Mundo start here. In winter there may be snow: check the road conditions before you go and carry chains if needed.
Tips for your trip
- Go early at weekends: the car park at the pass fills up quickly.
- Bring warm clothes even in summer: it is several degrees colder at the top.
- Find out about trails and park rules at the visitor centres.
